The Important Things in Life. . .

Planes are continually flying over my home as I type.

They are dropping fire retardant into the hills above our Alpine home.

Today started out like any other day, I was making the last minute preparations for our annual outdoor 4th of July breakfast.

This afternoon around 2:30 I was contemplating making a pool noodle U.S.A. banner to string across my pergola.

Suddenly I heard sirens and saw a fire truck come racing by.

I ran out to discover that the hills North East of our home were on fire.DSCN0087

Before long there were numerous fire trucks, police, newsmen and woman.

They interviewed my hubby but he didn’t get it recorded.

Quail Fire in Alpine, Utah

The fire grew so quickly.  In a matter of 45 minutes it had reached the top of the mountain.  ten to twelve fire trucks and the National Guard came to assist.

Two neighborhoods just North of us were evacuated.  We were told to be on alert by a neighborhood watchman.

I quickly grabbed my 72 hr. kits (which I might add are so outdated) and what  is most important to me.  My scrapbooks and quilts.  Hubby came home ready to grab our important documents, discs, and computers.

I told hubby the other thing I might want are the pictures of my grandchildren hanging on the stair wall.  Although I realized these could easily be replaced.

As I looked around my home and garden I couldn’t help but think how sad it would be to lose all the things I love.  However, I knew that none of that really mattered in times like these and one must stop and think about “What in life is really important.”

Don’t get me wrong, little things are important. but life itself is of the most importance.

One thing I was thankful for is my blog.  Many neighbors were quickly taking pictures of their homes inside and out.  I told hubby that I didn’t need to do that because my blogging has done that for me.

So far only a barn has burned.  The wonderful firefighters did an awesome job keeping the flames away from the homes.  There is a huge home up on the hill and the fire burned all around it.

I know that we are not totally out of danger yet, but I am so thankful that it’s not as threatening.

Because of all that has been going on I have not prepared my post for Share Your Cup.  I will be busy celebrating the 4th with family so I will post it Thursday morning.  Thank you and I hope you will come link up.

God Bless America and the Firefighters!

Hugs,

Jann

How frigtening, Jann. I am so glad that you are okay. My husband's parents' house burnt to the ground many years ago. They lost everything but thankfully they were not home and they were okay. Most things can be replaced but not life.

My heart goes out to all of those who have lost their homes and I always think about the wildlife who have also lost their "home" and I am sure many of them have perished.

Happy 4th of July!!

xoxo

I hope you can enjoy the 4th.

Happy 4th to my US blogging friend. I hope things improve down there. Fire is such a terrifying thing. We have had many bouts with wildfires here in BC through the years.

Prayers for all Jann... the air is filled with smoke here and I can hear the Forest Service planes overhead above our home as I type... flying to your area from Ogden Airport... please know I am thinking of you and everyone involved... those poor firefighters have been so diligent in trying to get these fires here in Utah under control... I'm sure they too are exhausted... I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and mine will continue for you... xoxo Julie Marie

I can't imagine how scarry it is to be that close to the fire. Even though it seems that all of Colorado is ablaze; our community has been spared so far. Take care and grab those pictures from the wall. Sally

I pray that no ones homes burn. It is scary. My sister had a fire come within 1 mile of her home and she said she had thrown lost of stuff into their 2 cars and mobile home when they were told to evacuate.
For me the family history and photographs would be tops on my list to save.

We have been praying for the area and are so sorry to hear it is so close. We will pray specifically for your safety. Please keep us posted.

Oh my- that's so scary. I hope you are still okay. You are so right about life being the most important thing to be concerned with. Pictures seem so important though because you can't replace a lifetime of them.
Please take care and I hope the 4th was something you enjoyed and had even more to be grateful for.
